Pendant & Ceiling Lights

Pendants, hanging and ceiling lights encompass a wide range of interior lighting which includes, chandeliers, tiffany lights, ceiling fans, lightshades, glass, lanterns, overhead, mini pendant lights, etc.,  Combination uplight and downlight fixtures make the most of the bulbs used.  Use pendants under light-coloured ceilings for most efficiency in reflecting ambient uplighting.  But make sure the ceiling is attractive, even if it is dark-hued, since it will be lit.  Virtually every kind of bulb is used in pendants, lanterns and hanging lights with halogen and compact flourescent being most energy efficient when it comes to pendants. Always use the lamp or bulb specified for the fixture, especially if the bulb is enclosed in a globe that traps heat.  Check with the fixture manufacturer or with the lighting showroom staff to be sure you can retrofit a fixture with a more efficient lamp. As with lighting you have a choice from a wide range of pendant styles and even a choice of how they are installed.  Most are designed to be wired directly into the ceiling.  In permanent installations, chains, metal stems, thin cables and retractable cords support the fixtures.  Some pendants come with counterweights so they can be lowered and adjusted at will.  Many pendants can be converted to plug-in swags.  In these, the fixture does not hang straight down from the canopy; it hangs from a hook in the ceiling.  From the hook, the cord and chain are either looped over to be wired through the canopy and directly into the electrical box, or they loop down to plug into a wall outlet.  No canopy is needed in this lighting arrangement.
